COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions

Are you still scheduling vaccines?

Yes, please see the criteria listed on our COVID-19 page. We encourage you to take the first opportunity that presents itself for you to be vaccinated. Please continue checking our COVID-19 webpage for updates as this may be subject to change, and utilize the Vaccine Finder tool for options near you.

You are my primary care clinic. Do I have to get vaccinated with you?

We are encouraging our patients to take the first opportunity that presents itself to receive a vaccine. See "Where else can I get the vaccine?" below for options.

I have questions about the vaccine, can I call or MyChart you?

We are asking that you do not contact the clinic regarding the availability of COVID-19 vaccines for certain groups as this page is updated as soon as vaccine distribution detals becomes available. Our staff does not have any more information than is available on this page. However, if you have questions or concerns regarding COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness or safety, or you are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms, feel free to contact your care team either by calling the clinic or utilizing your MyUnityPoint account.

Wisconsinites can call (844) 684-1064 (toll-free) for personal assistance with their vaccine-related questions. The new call center will be equipped to help individuals find vaccine locations, answer medical questions related to the COVID-19 vaccine, and assist with registration, including but not limited to using the Wisconsin COVID-19 vaccine registry. This call center is available to anyone in Wisconsin, but will be particularly useful for those without internet access, or who experience barriers that inhibit internet use.

How can we get updates on your vaccination process?

All updates will be given through our Facebook and Instagram, and posted on this dedicated COVID-19 webpage. Additionally, if you are an site member or subscriber, you will receive an email update.

Should I get vaccinated?

We are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible to do so.

Where else can I get the vaccine?

We are suggesting that patients start by clicking the Vaccine Finder link above. Additionally, patients can sign up through the Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Registry or call 844-684-1064 for vaccine help. UW Faculty and Staff may call University Health Services at 608-265-5600 (Option 1) and ask for COVID-19 vaccine scheduling information. **Please note that if your primary care physician is not with UW Health, UPH-Meriter, or SSM Health, they are asking you not to call seeking the vaccine from their hospitals and clinics. If you do have a UW Health, UPH-Meriter, or SSM Health primary care physician, please click on the link attached to the facility name for their instructions.**

Should I let you know that I received my vaccination elsewhere?

Please do not call or send us a MyUnityPoint message to inform of us of your status, as it may delay our ability to provide timely care for patients with urgent medical needs. We are able to audit each patient's Wisconsin Immunization Registry to see if they have already received a dose of the vaccine.

I'm pregnant/nursing. Is the vaccine safe for me?

Please reference this document on decision making if you are pregnant or nursing and plan on getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Are you scheduling vaccines for ages 5-11?

Parents should call the clinic to schedule their children, ages 5+, for a pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. Please note the following important details:

  • We do not have a self-scheduling feature through MyUnityPoint, and, because we anticipate our schedule filling quite quickly, we cannot accommodate MyUnityPoint messages requesting an appointment.
  • We know our patients may have preferences; however, we cannot guarantee that a particular nurse will be able to vaccinate your child.
  • ALL children must wait at least 15 minutes after they have received their vaccine. However, if your child has a history of any allergy resulting in anaphylaxis, they will be required to wait at least 30 minutes.
  • We cannot double-book these particular appointments, so every child will be scheduled for their own 10-minute appointment slot.

My child received the vaccine already. Should I let you know?

If your child has already received the vaccine or is scheduled to do so soon, there is no need to call or send us a MyUnityPoint message to let us know. COVID-19 vaccinations given in the state of Wisconsin will be added to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry no matter where they are given.

When I got my shot, I was told I couldn’t get other shots for 2 weeks around the vaccine; is that true for kids?

No—and it’s not true for adults anymore, either. When the vaccine was first approved, the FDA and CDC didn’t want to have side effects from other vaccines attributed to the COVID-19 vaccine, so they asked people to keep that 2-week window on either side of the vaccine so they could gather lots of information quickly. The restriction was removed months ago, and it’s OK to get vaccines at the same time as the COVID-19 vaccine, or any time before or after it.

My children have scheduled appointments coming up soon; could they get the vaccine at that appointment?

At this time, due to staffing and supply, we are asking that a separate appointment be scheduled for children to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. If it is strongly preferred, you may call the clinic to inquire about your child receiving a COVID-19 vaccine during their appointment; however, we, unfortunately, may not always be able to accommodate requests for COVID-19 vaccines to be administered during a given appointment.

I have questions about the vaccine.

We are happy to have you send us a MyUnityPoint message or give us a call if you have questions about the vaccine and your child! We absolutely want to reassure you of the safety and effectivity of the COVID-19 vaccine.
