Celebrating Women's History & Future

Every March, we celebrate Women’s History Month — a time to honor the strength, courage, and compassion of the women who came before us. At Associated Physicians, we are especially grateful for the women physicians who helped open doors in medicine. Years ago, women were not always welcomed into exam rooms as doctors. They fought to learn, to lead, and to care for other women with skill and empathy. Because of them, women today can choose providers who truly understand their experiences.

One woman who helped change the future of medicine was Elizabeth Blackwell. In 1849, she became the first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree. Many schools had turned her away simply because she was a woman. But she did not give up. She believed women deserved to care for other women, especially in times of illness and childbirth. Her courage opened doors for women physicians and nurses across the country. Because of leaders like her, generations of women have been able to study medicine and serve their communities.

We are proud of the women physicians in our OBGYN department who continue this legacy of care. From a young woman’s first visit, to pregnancy and childbirth, to menopause and beyond, our team walks beside patients through every stage of life. We offer prenatal care, high-risk pregnancy support, minimally invasive surgery, menopause care, preventive screenings, and so much more. Our physicians and care teams listen closely, answer questions, and create a safe space where women feel seen and heard.

But Women’s History Month is not only about doctors — it is about every woman in our community. It is about mothers, daughters, grandmothers, teachers, business owners, caregivers, and friends. We are honored to care for generations of families and to support women as they grow, change, and lead. The trust our patients place in us is something we never take for granted.

The women who paved the way showed us that progress is possible. Today, we continue that work — together.
