Qualifications

Required:

 

LPN: Current Wisconsin LPN license or eligible; knowledge of current nursing principles, practices and protocols; PC/typing and telephone experience; excellent decision-making, organization, planning and prioritization skills; appropriate examination and treatment skills; ability to accurately and appropriately document patient information; clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of clinic policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality; ability to maintain effective working relationships with medical providers, staff, patients, other healthcare facilities, service providers, and general public; and ability to react calmly and competently in emergent situations.

 

CMA: High school diploma or equivalent, graduate of an accredited medical assisting program; PC/typing and telephone experience; excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills; appropriate examination and treatment skills; ability to accurately and appropriately document patient information; clear and effective written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of clinic policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality; ability to maintain effective working relationships with medical providers, staff, patients, other healthcare facilities, service providers, and general public; and ability to react calmly and competently in emergent situations.

 

Preferred:

 

LPN: One-year experience in pediatrics, previous clinic experience, and CPR certification. Prior Epic experience highly preferred.

 

CMA: Certification with the American Association of Medical Assistants; one-year experience in pediatrics, previous experience in a clinic setting; CPR certification; and prior Epic experience preferred.

Clinic LPN/CMA-Pediatrics

Madison, WI - Full Time

If you love kids, come join our busy but fun pediatrics department! Our staff provides nursing care for our patients following established standards and practices. They assist our medical providers in providing and coordinating care for our patients and act as the primary liaison between our patients, staff, and medical providers.

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday between 7:30am-5:30pm; Saturday rotation 8am-12pm

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists medical providers and care teams in organizing practices. Prioritizes responsibilities to efficiently manage patient flow and provider schedules.

 

  • Provides care to patients in accordance with established standards.

 

  • Prepares charts, obtains necessary records from other facilities and abstracts information from paper medical records and correspondence.

 

  • Rooms patients, accurately collecting, recording and reporting patient’s condition including chief complaint, brief history, vital signs, height and weight, current medications and allergies. Documents appropriate information and updates health maintenance information in patient’s electronic medical record in a factual, accurate, thorough, and concise manner.

 

  • Under the direct supervision of the medical provider or registered nurse, performs delegated nursing or medical acts beyond basic nursing care such as electrocardiogram testing, holter monitor placements/removals, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, ear washes, and dressing changes. Communicates with nurses regarding urgent appointments, add-ons, etc. May perform phlebotomy on adults or children, process blood samples and lab specimens, or prepare samples for transport to the lab. Demonstrates sterile and aseptic technique. Uses appropriate technique when setting up and assisting with procedures and medication administration.

 

  • Dispenses medication, and administers injections and immunizations in accordance with a written or verbal order from the medical provider. Recognizes the implications of dosages, interactions, side effects, adverse effects, and routes of administration as applied to individual patients. Reinforces teaching provided by the medical provider or registered nurse regarding implications of medication therapy.

 

  • Provides basic health information and educational materials regarding procedures and appointments to patients. Reinforces the teaching provided by the medical provider or registered nurse to the patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.

 

  • Documents verbal orders obtained from the medical provider. Enters laboratory and medical imaging orders accurately. Monitors medical provider Results In Basket and informs medical provider of significant values. Communicates test results to patients and explains medical provider instructions regarding medications and/or procedures.

 

  • Assists in scheduling tests, treatments, procedures and referrals in accordance with a written or verbal order from the medical provider. Communicates status of scheduling to nursing staff. Copies and faxes information to other facilities, and performs other clerical functions as directed by medical provider or nursing staff. Follows up to ensure that information is available at time of appointment.

 

  • Answers telephone calls, stating name, and title or role. Appropriately screens telephone calls related to patient care and determines if call requires immediate triaging by medical provider or registered nurse. If telephone call is non-urgent, collects and records accurate patient information, and relays information to medical provider or registered nurse in a timely manner. Performs follow up as directed by medical provider or registered nurse.

 

  • Monitors expiration dates of stock medications and replaces medications when necessary. Prepares, stocks, and cleans exam rooms; maintains supplies; cleans and prepares equipment and instruments for sterilization. Notifies registered nurse supervisor of necessary supply orders and/or equipment repairs.

 

  • Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays and medical records.

 

  • Completes and routes hospital and nursing home charge slips to the business office in an accurate and timely manner as assigned by a medical provider.

 

  • Adheres to clinic policies and procedures regarding OSHA, infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality.

 

  • Attends and participates in department and nursing meetings.

 

  • Maintains courteous, professional relationships with medical providers, staff, patients, other healthcare facilities, service providers, and general public. Refers concerns to Registered Nurse Supervisor as appropriate.

 

  • Enhances professional growth and development by attending meetings, seminars, conferences, continuing education courses, etc.

 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
