Internal Medicine & Cardiology

Dr. Hyzer is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He provides comprehensive primary health care for adult patients of all ages, and he works with patients to prevent and manage heart disease and its complications.

“I enjoy both the straightforward and the complex aspects of internal medicine, because this is a specialty that offers the full continuum of care throughout adulthood,” says Dr. Hyzer. “It is rewarding, also, to see the results of positive reinforcement when helping patients make lifestyle changes that will improve their cardiac health and quality of life.”

Expert Medical Care

At Associated Physicians, Dr. Hyzer provides primary health care services for patients aged 18 to 88 and beyond. He diagnoses and treats conditions ranging from minor upper-respiratory infections to complex cardiovascular illnesses and conditions. In addition to office visits, Dr. Hyzer also manages inpatient care, nursing home care, and end-of-life care for his patients.

As a cardiologist, Dr. Hyzer diagnoses and treats a variety of cardiovascular diseases and conditions. He utilizes a range of cardiology consulting services and diagnostic tests, such as echocardiograms and treadmill stress tests, which are available at Associated Physicians.

Access to Care

Dr. Hyzer is a graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School. He completed his residency and fellowship training in internal medicine at the University of Iowa. He and his wife reside in Madison and have two adult children. Dr. Hyzer is board certified in internal medicine and joined Associated Physicians in 1979.

“My outlook and goals meld together with the commitment of Associated Physicians to deliver the best access to health care for the patient, not for a health care ‘system,'” he says. “Our independent medical group is rare and becoming more so as time goes by. Yet the most important factor in medical care is the patient’s access to that care.”
